FOUNDERS AND PASTORS OF CEDARHOUSE

CO-FOUNDERS OF CEDARHOUSE SOUL

Pete and Patti Shambrook
live in Orange, CA

They have three grown children Dane, Connor and Sophie who are married to Lauren, Varya and Marco respectively. They were also blessed with a grandchild in December 2021; Shepherd Judah Shambrook, the son of Dane and Lauren.

Pete has been pastoring in Orange County for over 25 years and holds an M.A. in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care from The Institute of Spiritual Formation at Talbot Seminary. One of his greatest passions is walking alongside people in their walk with Jesus, helping them make sense of life with God.

Patti has an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy and has been helping people find health and wholeness for over 10 years. Her practice is an “integrated” practice where dependence on the Holy Spirit for wisdom and discernment and a firm foundation in therapy, is bringing healing to people’s spiritual, emotional, and psychological life.

In January 2015, Pete & Patti had an honest and vulnerable season that began with them saying to each other, “There must be more to this life in Christ than what we are experiencing. Why are our lives, and the lives of many of the people around us, not experiencing what we read in the Gospels and the Book of Acts? There has to be more. This isn’t it” This began a journey of discovering what it means to walk in the humility, power, and authority of the Holy Spirit and all that He intends to empower us with for this life in Christ. Their conviction was to find others who were longing for more of God and not only run with them but also learn from them. This was achieved in a group of friends from South County who took them in and encouraged them and it was here that they began to learn the power of prayer. It was during these years that the Lord began speaking to them about CEDARHOUSE where the mission was to ignite and equip people into the abundant life that Jesus speaks of.

In November 2018 while still pastoring their church, they opened a prayer room with friends from their church that provided the perfect place where people could engage with God. Then in October 2019 they were blessed and sent out to start CedarHouse by the church they were co-pastoring. It was Pete and Patti’s vision to establish a neutral space that was not directed toward any one church but rather THE Church, in order to ignite and equip God’s people in prayer, walking in the Spirit, worship and the arts. God also provided an amazing team of people to come alongside the vision and minister in the power and authority of the Holy Spirit.

Our Vision, Manifesto & Statement of Belief

  • We see a space to encounter God’s presence outside the walls and structures of a church setting where we are awakened to the robust nature of the Holy Spirit who brings to us life-change, healing and equips us to live a kingdom lifestyle in an upside down world.

We see a people ignited in prayer to unleash God’s kingdom on earth.

We see a people set free from their bondage and hopelessness into a life of freedom, hope, authority and power in Jesus’ name.

We see His Bride engaging with their true identity as sons and daughters in Christ to affect a world that is confused about their identities.

We see a younger generation walking and leading others in the power and authority of the Holy Spirit

We see gatherings around the presence of God where our worship and adoration cuts through our unlikeness to Jesus and presents us at His feet for healing.

We see a holy people unlocking and expressing their creativity through the arts into the community that we live in

We see a world that has discovered the intimate, life-transforming presence of God, through a people, who walk in His presence and are practitioners of the gifts of His Holy Spirit.

  • We believe that prayer unleashes the Kingdom of God on earth and that God is good and He delights in us.

We believe that we have a mind that needs renewing everyday so that we are no longer caught off guard by the patterns of this world that are habituated in our hearts and minds.

We believe that God always asks us to move first in faith, then He joins us accompanied by grace, to do the things that we cannot do without Him.

We believe in risking it all for His Kingdom.

We believe that beauty matters and that the environment we invite others into sets the tone for all to feel safe, loved and home.

We love how being creative inspires us to play and be childlike. Creativity allows us to relate to the Spirit of God that’s fresh and new, where we find ourselves reflecting His very nature. Experiencing through our senses the creativity and artistry of others moves our hearts closer to God’s heart.

We believe that investing in the younger generation is a responsibility and a joy.

    We believe in family.

We believe in lingering late into the night with friends and family or after a night of ministry to soak in some more.

We believe in a local coffee house where we come together and are known and know others.

We believe that the old and the modern complement each other just as the young and the old are both needed. The youth bring their passion and ideas and the older generation bring wisdom and experience.

We believe that celebration matters. Birthdays and summer barbecues, beach days, and surf days, the first fire in the winter, the first rain, the Christmas season all interrupt the mundane.

We believe in the Word, child-like wonder, building things that last. We believe in embracing new worlds and cultures, red Ugandan dirt that stays on your shoes, wild worship and miracles.

  • CedarHouse

    • Igniting and equipping FOLLOWERS OF JESUS because the world is waiting for what you carry.

    The Bible

    • We believe that the Bible is God’s Word. It is accurate, authoritative, and applicable to our everyday lives. (II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:20-21; Proverbs 30:5; Romans 16:25-26).

    Trinity

    • We believe in one eternal God who is the Creator of all things. He exists in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. He is a loving and holy God. (Romans 8; Ephesians 1:13-14)

    Redemption

    • We believe that every single person is important to God and that mankind was created good and in union with God. However, voluntary sin separated us from God and the only hope of redemption is in Jesus Christ, the Son of God (Gen. 1:26-31, 3:1-7; Romans 3:23; 5:12-21; 1 Timothy 2:4; 2 Peter 3:9).

    Salvation

    • We believe that the only way to heaven is through an authentic relationship with Jesus Christ. He lived a sinless and Holy Spirit empowered life, died on the cross in our place, and rose again to prove His victory and empower us for life. (John 3:16, 14:6; Romans 6:23; 1 Corinthians 15:1-8; Matthew 16:16)

    Empowerment

    • We believe that in order to live the holy and fruitful lives that God intends for us, we need to be baptized in water and be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit enables us to use spiritual gifts including prophecy, speaking in tongues, signs, miracles, and wonders for the equipping of the church to reach the world. (Ephesians 4:1-16; Mark 16:17-18; Acts 2:1-12;1 Corinthians 12:4-10; 1 Corinthians 14:4-5)

    Transformation

    • We believe that God wants all of us to experience true freedom, healed and transformed, so that we can live healthy and blessed lives as a means to empower others into the life of Christ. (Galatians 5:1; Matthew 15:30; 1 Corinthians 12:9-10)

    The Church

    • We believe in the power and significance of the Church, unity in the body of believers and the necessity to meet regularly together in authentic relationship, prayer and the ‘breaking of bread’. (Hebrews 10:24-25; Matthew 18:20; Acts 2:42; Colossians 3:16; Ephesians 4:11)

    Eternity

    • We believe that when we die, we will either be separated from God by sin or united with Him eternally through faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. (John 3:16; John 14:1-3; Revelation 20:10,15)

    Second Coming

    • We believe that Jesus is coming back again as He promised and will reign forever. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)

Meet the Team

Sophie Barrientos, Worship and Creative Director

Worship and Creative Director

Sophie Barrientos

A deep love for God and music marked Sophie at a very young age and propelled her into song-writing and leading worship. After high school, she moved to Australia, studying at Hillsong International Leadership College. While serving on their creative and worship teams, a deeper desire for God and the filling of His Holy Spirit was birthed in her. This lit a new internal fire—and she began hosting and leading nights of prayer, worship and teaching on the prophetic. Sophie has a heart for justice, and her love for people and different cultures grew as she travelled to other countries on mission. In September 2022, Sophie married the love of her life, Marco Barrientos and along with serving to oversee worship and creative teams at CedarHouse she also serves alongside Marco in a powerful ministry called North East of the Well. “Knowing we are made and connected to the God of Creation, we have limitless creativity to bring to this world. The arts have the ability to transcend borders, languages and the hardest of hearts.” For such is her mission: a partnering with God to bring His love, light, power and healing to the world through community, music, worship and justice.

Jeff & Ruth Stingley

Jeff and Ruth have hand-in-hand logged together thirty-four years of marriage; the births of two children and the adoption of two shortly after birth; and four career changes. In 2003 they headed up the prayer ministry for a local church and this began their time leading ministries together. They prayed, led prayer meetings, and recruited and encouraged prayer warriors at their church for several years until choosing more incognito ministry roles—asking God for His direction as they hearkened to His voice as for whom and what to pray inside and outside the church. A former assistant English professor and ghostwriter by trade, Ruth authored a book in 2013—Speak to Your Heart—a book on biblical blessings. She wrote 69 blessings, and Jeff (owner of a rubber-parts manufacturing company) penned the final one, making it a co-adventure. For life together—directed by Jesus—is what they like best.

Such traits dovetail with CedarHouse’ s priorities. When not in front of a computer screen, Trent loves to spend time in Montana, casting a dry fly in hopes of tempting a curious trout.
